Air Canada Launches Direct Flight from Basel to Montreal
Non-stop flights will connect Basel and Montreal four times a week starting June 2027.
Basel receives a new direct connection to North America. Air Canada announced on September 3, 2026, that it will connect EuroAirport with Montreal starting June 2027. The route will be served non-stop four times a week.
The first flight from Basel to Montreal is scheduled for June 17, 2027. In the opposite direction, the service will start on June 16. According to the currently published flight schedule, the route is initially planned until the end of October 2027.
Four Flights Weekly Across the Atlantic
The Airbus A321XLR will be deployed. This long-haul aircraft allows Air Canada to offer direct connections to North America even from smaller European airports.
Flights from Basel to Montreal are scheduled to depart on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays, and Sundays. In the opposite direction, flights are planned for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.
Air Canada will use two cabin classes on the A321XLR. This includes its Signature Class with fully flat-bed seats. This makes the connection attractive not only for leisure travelers but also for business travelers.
Montreal Becomes Gateway to North America
The actual benefit of the new route lies not only in Montreal itself. The Canadian metropolis's airport is an important Air Canada hub. From there, numerous connecting options exist to other destinations in Canada and the USA.
For travelers from Basel and Northwestern Switzerland, a flight to Montreal will no longer require a detour via another European airport. Those wishing to travel further into North America also gain an additional option to cross the Atlantic directly from the Basel region.

Load factor is crucial for a new long-haul connection. Especially business travel and tourist traffic must generate sufficient demand for the operation to be profitable in the long term.
What the New Route Means for Travelers
For passengers from Basel, Aargau, Solothurn, Alsace, and Southern Baden, Montreal will be significantly easier to reach. Instead of traveling first to Zurich, Geneva, or a major European transfer airport, they can depart directly from EuroAirport.
